My first post! Materials are lacewood, brass, steel, and leather. Finish is beewax/oil.

I’ve been setting up cellos for too long without the convenience of a string lifter. The string lifter allows you to take the bridge off without loosening the strings after setting the string height, it saves a surprising amount of time and protects the varnish from a loose tail piece. Just turn the knob and up it goes.

1- Overview
2- In position
3- Holding up on it’s own

Thank you for looking.

Nothing like seeing a custom tool for a particular purpose. I have also made things because I finally reached the point where I said, “I’ve had enough!” Nice idea.

Well I’m not into making instruments but your idea it could be adapted and use in many other ways.

I have one almost exactly like this but the adjustment is with a nut in the center open space. But I call mine a ‘Hat Stretcher’!! Love that lacewood!

Thanks for the comments!

drbyte, I find that the the bridge would get in the way with a nut in the center. Using a threaded insert on the top portion and extending the screw makes it easier to work. Great Ukuleles you have there, the first instrument I ever sold was a cigar box uke!

Nice one!

I need to

A) use mine more often, and
B) make a better one than my first one.

BTW You can also use the string lifter to figure out a good height if you have to recreate a ‘missing’ bridge.
