walnut bed with drawers

Wife wanted a low bed with shoe drawers; I wanted a walnut bed but wasn’t willing to pay $$$$. I saw a few photos of different designs and created this one. It’s a mix of solid walnut, and walnut plywood. This was the first time i’ve used veneer—not at much fun as solid wood, so I won’t do that again.

Simple finish of clear water based varnish worked very well (even though some test pieces looked much better with an oil finish). Wood conditioner helped on the test piece so I used it on the whole thing. I didn’t fill the pores before finishing.

Note the quality assurance inspector checking out each and every drawer upon installation.

I was about to comment that these sorts of inspectors like to keep a hands on perspective of the work.

Nice looking bed. I like the way the grain shows on the headboard.

I think we have the same cat! Ours looked exactly like your inspector. He always could be found in a drawer or box or bag somewhere. Must be related. :-)

Love that bed a whole lot! Really nice design- I haven’t seen a lot of beds with drawers underneath that I still like, aesthetically. This one is great.

QA inspector looks good too. ;)

lol yeah i couldn’t keep the cats out of our bed drawers when i was building it too.

Yes, this is very simple yet elegant.

I can’t help but notice that you can only open 3 of the drawers :) Probably just building it that way for future use?
