Quilted maple humidor

I used this humidor for a while and eventually sold it to a friend and made a bigger one. The inside is lined with Spanish Cedar and the edges are coped for a tight seal. I sure wish some of those big leaf maples grew around me – I love that quilted maple but the lumber yards are real proud of it.

Quilted maple is too expensive for my blood! I’d love to have a few quilted maple logs. If I win the lottery, I’ll make a road trip and buy some logs, then swing down to the South and buy some mesquite logs, then head home and post a “Wood Gloat!” LOL I don’t have any quilted maple of my own, but I’ve got a 35” long piece that’s 3” thick, 3” on the narrow end and 8” on the big end. Yep, it’s a gunstock blank and I can’t even imagine how pretty it will be when I carve it for the customer who had it shipped to me.

It’s a beautiful humidor. I love the wood and you’ve done a great job on it.

When I buy wood that nice, I have to make something to sell and hope I have some left for a personal project. I recently saw some offered for $18-24 a BF. Very pretty stuff! I once made a box out of some that I uncovered in my shop from 20 years ago. I’m sure it was a lot cheaper then! I had forgotten I had it.
