One of my first attempts at turning after attending one of the Shopsmith classes on turning. It was a one day basic class. Very good actually. I really enjoy my shopsmith although I have not begun to use it to it’s fullest potential. I am actually not sure what this wood is. I really like the pattern of the light color wood seperated from the darker wood with the black line. That is all natural. Nothing really fancy but I am proud of it.

The contrasting woods definitely create interest.

These are quite attractive. However, as someone who dates back to the 60s and 70s I need to ask, why is it called a “weed” pot? That got my attention.

Funny, I wondered the same thing. I think I learned about these from video or book by Richard Raffan. They are used to displayed dried flowers etc. Maybe someone else knows more about the origin of the name.
