Constructed some time ago from Jelutong and Radiata pine, with an antique / faded finish applied. The light brown one (on the left) had a white acrylic bottom coat and then petrol was applied which resulted in the paint ‘cracking’, several coats of clear polyurethane and then a dark walnut stain applied and washed with turpentine, with several more coats of clear finish.
The golden finish (on the right) was along similar lines , an undercoat with a white acrylic top coat, then a golden coloured oil paint with a cedar stain wash. After drying sanded back to show the timber with several coats of clear polyurethane to finish it off.
Must admit the antique finish wasn’t to my likeing but people have liked them as they are, and have asked me to make more, so I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
