This is a couple of pictures of the bed I made for the 48 Chevy pickup hot rod I just completed. The wood is rustic maple sometimes called ambrosia. The finish is 7 coats of marine varnish block sanded to 800 between each coat. There is a fair amount of woodworking in the bed – each of the wood strips are profiled on the edges to match the stainless steel strips and then the whole thing is dadoed underneath to hide the mounding bolts that go through the floor and into the truck frame. The wood working was the only part I knew going in. The whole project took me 6 years and I did everything but the upholstery myself. The truck was supposed to be a wood getter but now I use my car to get wood – I wouldn’t want to scratch the bed :)

Forget the wood, that truck is incredible. Oh Okay, the wood slats are cool too ;-)
