Thanks for the inspiration !
I needed an eyeglass case and Andy’s palm valet was a great starting point.
My twists were to taper the case (that’s 75°, cut with a #5 hand plane) and to use a rare earth magnet, cup and washer for positive closure. There’s a leather pad that captures the glasses nose bar for a “no rattle” fit. I also used 1/16” dia. pieces of spring steel, sometimes called music wire, as the hinge pins.
Front, back, and bottom are walnut, sides are maple, top is ash and accents are ash, walnut laminates.
3 coats of Watco Danish oil so far, I’m going to add several coats of shellac in a few days.
BTW the magnet is almost too strong, it will not open by accident.

I really like your glass case. For some reason, I’ve never even thought of making a glass case from wood…one of those “duh” moments. Thanks for the new thought.
