Maple Knife block

This is my first project post here so be gentle.

It’s a knife block made from Maple. It was a lot harder than I thought it would be. Every opening is tailored for a specific knife.

The two in the center for the forks were the hardest. The curves in the forks means that I had to hollow out the inside of the blocks.

Finish is a simple water based poly.

Nicely done.

Very nice! Do you mind describing how you hollowed out the holes?

The Dude abides.

Nice job, Lebowski! It looks perfect to me—pretty good for a first project.

I was wondering if anyone would pick up on the Lebowski thing. Great movie!
This wasn’t my first project, just my first post.

I didn’t hollow out any holes. I just cut a groove big enough for the knife that was going there and glued the next piece over it to close it in.

It’s basically made from a bunch of smaller pieces.

Nice block. It should last as least as long as those nice Cutco knives you have. My parents of 50 years still have the set they got on their wedding.

Yea, those knives are over 30 years old. They will outlast my kids. I have a lot of other Cutco things also.
Thanks

So miket, just how long have you been leading a double/multiple identity with LJs? Do you feel this is honest to other woodworkers? You just double posted on my thread under TWO identities and gave yourself away, why?
