this was my first attempt at kids tools. This was my most recent christmas gifts for 2010. I had an assortment of tools from a hammer to a framing square. There is also a screwdriver flathead and a saw. Both my nephews use the saw as a gun (go figure) and the hammer is being used quite vigorously by my brothers son. As a matter of fact he just snapped the oak dowel on the hammer. So I have to replace it with another dowel. However, that is the only collateral damage. The framing square is pinned with oak dowels and so is the saw. The screwdriver has an oak dowel that is countersunk with in the handle about 2 inches. So these tools are meant to last. even though he managed to snap an oak dowel. maybe it was just soft in that area.
Material is Oak and Walnut. You will notice my brand on the bottom side of the box.

These are beautiful, and look strong too – able to take a child’s use & abuse.

Very cool idea and an excellent execution. I may steal some of your ideas. Thank you for sharing.

This is a cool project! My girls would use the mallet on each other but probably not very many times. I gotta remember this one if I start teaching 4-H kids woodworking. Thanks for the post.
