Zion Utah in Barn wood

I have found a bunch of barnwood that I have wanted to do something with. I chose to make a graphic depiction routed in the 2”x 8”x30” beam. The wood is beautifully aged having sat in the snow and sun for many years and just below the surface is very clean grain and uniform color. The Z to the left has a knot that I had wanted to incorporate. I chose to keep it as it enhances character and gives some variety in definition.

After sitting and staring at it for awhile I felt it was mising an accent so I put 2 rusted nails back in place and added a copper ‘button’ on the top right as a shiny contrasting highlight to the rusted and weathered look.

A bunch as defined in the dictionary is ” A WHOLE BARN”! Most is torqued and twisted but some is very straight. If I had a planer I could recover lots of nice old stuff.

Cool Sign. My wife’s family lives in Hurricane and we drive through Cedar to go see her other sister in Escalante. Usually stop in Cedar for gas or food. Who knew I was passing by a fellow Lumberjock. Maybe I’ll have to say hi next time.

Stop on by and break the boredom! Always welcome a fellow woodworker. Even if you are from Hur-kin!

BTW: 0-3/4 you’re welcome to stop by as well. It’s a long way to WA. I’ve been here 4 years since moving from Redmond. It’s slower here.

B13: This wood is pine from what I can tell and YES it too was very hard. Age has a tendency to do that to us!
