I built this surround out of cherry and zebra wood. I made everthing exept the crown moulding. I resawed inch and quarter zebra wood on my bandsaw and book matched it. After planing it flat its about 3\8s thick. The fireplace is outlined with granite which i purchased from a local granite yard. I finished the whole piece with forbys tung oil, and every 6 months i wipe on a new coat.

Very nice.
Would you do a close up of the clock sitting on the mantel?
Outstanding work.

Very sharp mantel and surround!

Did the zebrawood darken up that much from the tung oil, or is it the lighting? There’s not quite as much contrast there as I would’ve thought?

The pics are taken with my phone so they are not very good.
