Hi Everyone

Still like a deep freeze up here in Maine, figured I would post another project. This box was one of my very first ones. It is an oak box made from pallet wood. It has box joints and has a mitered picture framed book end matched veneer lid. I also put some walnut keys in the lid, that was a real challenge to do with out any real solid jig, just set it up with clamps and was real careful with the table saw, one mess up and I would be done. Any thing like that from here on out will be done with a reliable jig. The solid brass hinges are mortised, and it has a raised floor, this box was before my logo came into existence. It has a couple coats of linseed oil, and paste wax as a finish. I gave this box to the Love of my Life, Cindy, she is getting quit the collection by now. Well, it was lots of fun and a real challenge for one of my first endeavors into woodworking. Thanks for looking.

Nice box. The keys in the lid are pretty cool, nice tight box joints and the veneer is beautiful.

Very nice. I thought for a moment you were going to try pass that veneered lid off as pallet wood as well!

The veneer looks like a Van gogh painting If you look at the first pic. you can Imagine a tree trunk coming up from the bottom frame and the wind sweeping through the tree top showing a few dark spots as leaf clusters. very cool! thanks!

Yes, I can see the tree !! And a couple of bears or wolfs behind it.

Cool box . I will try pallet any time at all. Already picked one.
Take care

Just stumbled upon this. Really like the veneer work and corner splines that go through the lid. Actually i guess they are more like keys because of their placement? Anyway, cool looking box and thank you for sharing.

Sweet piece. Love the veneered top. Nice touch on the corner keys, too.
Good score on the pallet wood. You utilized it with skill.

Gorgeous box and the lid is just fantastic : )
I’ve always loved the look of box joints , sometimes even better than dovetails. This is one of those times : )
