Maple / Makore Asian style stash box

This ia a very beautiful box. I have not heard of Makore wood before. It makes for a nice accent wood.

I will have to admit that I had not heard of Makore before either. I guess it goes by a number of equally esoteric names, but the most common is African Cherry. My son bought me a stack of exotic wood for Christmas, and I have been resawing and trying to find the best ways to use it. Makore seems to be quite hard and prone to splintering and tear-out. I mated it with the maple for the contrast.
