Nice work Dominic, I really like the way you beveled the edge. What type of finish did you use ?

Very nice. I really like the frame around the playing surface. Are there any expansion issues to worry about with the material within the frame and if so how did you accommodate for it?

Vince, I finished this piece with 3 coats of tung oil, rubbing out the final coat with micromesh sanding discs (1500-12000 grit) on my random orbit sander. The edge is actually bevelled (I can’t believe you were able to see that detail in the picture) and there is a bead above the bevel, to really make the board look lighter when viewed from an angle.

Marc, the playing surface is actually made of shop sawn veneers (1/16” thick) glued to a baltic birch plywood core. The thinness of the veneers coupled with the lamination to the plywood took care of any expansion issues.
