Today’s goal was to start turning all of my scrap into things…

For my first project, I decided to do a variation on Spalm's Feathers Board... which I’ve loved from the moment I saw it.

It’s roughly 18” x 18” x .75”, and there’s maple, walnut, and mahogany in there.

Unfortunately, I didn’t catch all of the little shifts during the glue up… No loss though, unless you stick your face (or camera) right on it, you’ll never notice :)

You did it well. I did zoom in to find the mistakes. It looks like my first few of these. I now use a plywood glue up jig with a fixed edge to help keep things in place. I saw it here (someplace). Great use of scraps!

-- Robert, so much inspiration here, and so little time!

Nice. I like it. The simple outriggers really add a nice touch to the complicated chevron. Cool.

The Feathers board is the current favorite board of my wife and me. We use it daily. It has really held up well, being face grain and all.

Good job,
Steve

Nice combination of wood here. You did a good job of making it eye-catching without being too busy, in my opinion.

Whoa! in order of appearance:

Charlie – Thanks!

dusty56 – Thank you, I wish I could say I planned the combinations… I just grabbed anything that was long enough and started sticking it all together :)

Robert – I really learned a thing or two while making this, and I’ll definitely make a jig if / when I do more… I would have this time, but I didn’t make this with much forethought… I just kinda went at it!

jusfine – Thank you!

stefang – You’re too kind.

Mr. Spalm – Thanks for the wonderful idea! Perhaps one day I’ll be daring enough to try some of those crazy things you make. It’s nice to hear that you actually use the boards you make… I’ve given away most of the ones I’ve made, and very few of them actually see use… which is kinda sad.

mtkate – thank you very much.

Bob – Thanks!

Andy – Thaaaank you :)

Jonathan – Thanks! Conveniently, all of my scrap is short… else, I would have made the whole thing with arrows! But I do think this worked out much better.

Well, the only thing that I don’t like about your cutting board is that it is not in my kitchen! Well done Wellington – it’s a winner.
