Made this out of some scrap oak, walnut, mahogany, and cherry. Various woods used for inlay. Of course, once the family saw it, had to make a few more. Fun little project. Finished with a couple of coats of poly and hand rubbed wax.

If you build these and they slide on the surface you place them (likely will) you can do one of two things…
1. Place some clear little rubber door bumpers used on kitchen cabs on the bottom of base, for feet.
2. Tape three or four strategically placed washers on the bottom of base. Squeeze some silicone dobs at about four desired places then set base on some wax paper. Let dry, pull off wax paper and washers and you have silicone feet to keep them form sliding. Worked for me. The idea is to have some low profile feet to keep the base looking pretty close to the surface it is on.
Get creative with the inlay and have fun.

Cool. I guess a guy could use the same wood with different stains on each piece and get a neat look as well. Thanks for posting. I am gonna make these.
