After viewing MoTad’s bread box from New Zealand, I thought I’d add one of my own. I used ½” hickory to build this box as it matches our kitchen cabinets and hickory is a very reasonably priced wood, less than $5.00/ board ft. I built a ¼” wide track on the inside and mounted ¼” dowels on the back sides of the lid for it to slide open and closed. Then I added 4 coats of wipe-on poly. Now I don’t have to worry about the cat eating our bread when I leave the loaf on the kitchen counter!

Thats sweet! I really favor the look and hardness of hickory. The BB really compliments the rest of the kitchen. Thanks for sharing your work with us.

Looks sharp. A little plexi window on the door would be neat too.. so you could see just how many cinnamon raisin bagels you have left…

Great job. It matches the entire house. Is it a log home? If so I’ll stop by for a 6-month visit. (LOL).
