When I was a little girl I had a ‘roly poly’ toy that would right itself when I knocked it over. I have thought of that toy all my life and searched for things that would help me right myself when anything – life – knocked me over. Woodworking, and especially carving, never fails me. By the time I am done a carving, my head has cleared, my focus has shifted, and I am happy again. I have a feeling everybody on this forum knows this process.

The carving is white pine, around 8” tall, and will rock and return to upright if it is knocked just a little bit.

Well done. I like the story – it makes the piece special.

Nice! I love the idea, the execution, and the meaning. It does sound familiar to me!
