Kitchen Reno Finally Completed

After about six months of staged work the kitchen is finally finished! (unquote)

New appliances, stove converted from electric to gas (the old 240 volt circuit now goes to the wood shop- ha ha), new range hood and ducting to outside, quartz counter tops, glass back-splash, under cupboard lighting, new lighting fixtures and additional wiring, cupboards and drawers overhauled and updated (the doors and drawers were – and still are – solid and the fields are book-matched quarter sawn oak), added the wine rack and lighted bevel edge glass door display cupboard over fridge, after patching all the walls I wet sanded and touched them up three times prior to painting, and finally, all new window coverings.

Not a really big kitchen but boy was it a lot of work – time to raid the wine rack.

I did not photograph the original kitchen but plaid wallpaper back-splash will give you the idea.

Dang Don, you are a busy boy. I feel guilty.
Looks great. Well done.

Thanks Steve – no need to feel guilty, I am retired and have lots of time for projects and my shop.

All the best

I have been in the process of redoing my kitchen. Interesting to see how well yours has turned out.. I started mine in 2008 before I found out having cancer. After winnng the battle I restarted the project last year. I’m building ALL components except for most the countertops. Been like my hope kitchen. I build components as I can afford them. Only have 5 wall cabinets to build. So I’m seeing the light st the end of the tunnel. I’ll be posting my pictures then.

It looks fantastic!

I do have a question, though. I know in my house water from rinsing dishes always ends up getting splashed behind the sink. Has having the sink located where it is, with no backsplash, presented any problems?

Hi Lee and tyka – thanks for the kind comments.

Charlie – we added two inches to the back side of the new counter top as we had some (but not much) splashing over with the old one. Also we added a deeper sink and a faucet that has either a steady stream or a shower type stream – these changes minimize the issue and it is no problem.
