This is my first segmented turning and first bowl ever. Learning to turn face grain was a challenge. I guess when you don’t have a teacher on hand, you learn by trial and error!
Made this bowl from walnut and maple. It’s 6 7/8” across and 1 3/4” tall. Got it to about 5/16” thick in the base and sides.
Finish is turners polish and 2 coats of paste wax.
Pic 1-4 of finished bowl, #5 is mounted on faceplate glue block #6 is first coat of finish while still on lathe. Love how the grain in the base popped as I chose a pretty gnarly piece of walnut for the base.
Full writeup is on my blog if interested. Thanks for looking!
Forgot to mention that it will be sold in a silent auction in support of Canadian Vets at the Army Navy Air Force Branch (#262 In Mississauga)
