This is my first Cigar Box Guitar and I just finished it up today. I had a little while to play it and tune it. It is going to be a gift for my father in laws birthday at his party today so not much time to play it. Wish I had more but I will make myself another one soon. As with most of my projects this was made with hand tools. Finish is oil/varnish and wax.

Awesome! That fretboard is no small accomplishment using hand tools. Hat’s off! al

Really cool, love the simple solutions and yet so cool design.

What a great project! I’m going to have to look into this. Good job.

Great looking CBG. I love these things and ukes are fun too. Not nit-picking, but a word of advice if you’d accept it as such. Your tuning pegs are backwards/or wrong side. The peg/post should be towards the body so the tension on the string will pull the gear on the peg toward the gear on the knob. Hopefully this one will be okay but the string tension can ‘lever’ the gears apart over time and they will slip when trying to tune. Best of luck with these, don’t give up. They are so much fun to do. Try a uke sometime and see how much fun they are. Are you also on ‘CigarBoxNation’? Check it out ( and ‘CIGARBOXGUITARBUILDERS’ on Yahoo groups. They’re great resources.

Thanks for the comments everyone.

drbyte, it took me quite a while to figure out what you meant but I am following you now. Thanks for the advise I didn’t even think to look for that, my guess is that the other set of pegs that I still have in the box would accomplish exactly what you are talking about. I’d like to try a bass guitar; ever do anything along those lines? I’ve been to cigarboxnation but I’m not a member. I am looking forward to another one of these for myself so I can spend some time playing one.
