Band saw Box
This is my first attempt at one of these band saw boxes. In fact, I never even heard of such a thing until I joined the LJ community. After seeing all the great boxes here, I just had to give it a try.
This box is my own design, inspired from the information available at Tony Ward’s web site. His site is fantastic. Lots of information and how to’s, even some free plans.
I wanted to keep it real simple for my first effort. Grabbed a piece of left over 4×4 cedar fence post, drew a few reference lines and went to the band saw. Much to my surprise these little boxes are a lot easier than what I had expected. They also build fast. I was about 4 hours total on mine. Mind you, I could have done a bit better finish on it. Some more sanding for sure. Made a drawer pull from a bit of bass wood scrap, and a couple of coats of wipe on poly and a coat of paste wax and I was ready for some pictures. Not sure what I’ll do with this thing, but maybe one of the kids will want it.

Very attractive shape. Glad you had fun with this one… like you said, they are fairly simple and quick. But also open to lots of design possibilities.

it’s beautiful.
so many little treasures can fit in the drawer.
The finish, in my opinion, is beautiful – very soft and natural looking.
a 4×4 fence post. go figure!

This one came out quite nice! When they follow nice curves like that, they are very appealing. Nice!

Very nice!
I’ve gotta do some research. I see these bandsaw boxes posted here all the time, and I just don’t quite “get” how it is done.

Brian I think that your first band saw box may have inspired a few of us to give it a try.

Really nice design, and it looks great. I really like how the drawer sides curl inward the slightest bit. Oops, gotta go… I hear my band saw calling me…

My Mate, Tony Ward will like this one.
I’ve never successfully made a bandsaw box. I know this because when I tried, my wife told me to stick to my small wooden boxes (which I love by the way) – not mine that is, but any small wooden box – this one included.

Gotta love those cedar 4×4s! My first bandsaw box was from an extra one I had left over from building a fence! You did a very nice job of following the wod’s flow and creating a box that will be treasured.

Very nice and especially good for a first attempt. I can only do small ones with my benchtop BS. Maybe someday I’ll upgrade to a full size one.

Some anonymous person kindly left me a small cedar log outside my shop door.
This has given me an idea of what to do with it.
Thanks.
