Last September they had a Crafts Fair here in the booming town of Atwater, Ca. I rented a booth, had some night stands, bathroom caddies/shelves made from 1” square oak, picture frames, business card holder/pencil holder sets, a casket for your pet… all day worked on projects, because it was better than not getting anything done. Didn’t sell a thing. Well this was one of the items I was tryin to peddle.
Dovetailed Shelf made from Hickory (O.K. so I went through a Hickory phase) and if anyone has kept up with my little venture you could probably tell me what finish I used. Anyone? Anyone?
And I saved it to my website so I could fit BIGGER pictures, more of them , and O.K. so I’m trying to boost the traffic for my web site. :P

this is lovely (and functional)
I don’t think I’ve ever purchased anything at a Crafts Fair – just enjoyed looking at everyone’s work

Don’t get disenchanted with the craft shows. When I started out I was making lamps and selling them (or not, mostly not) at a flea market. As time went on, my products looked a little better (but not much) and wound up getting asked to bring some samples to their house so the hubby could see them. Well, they had 6 – 8 neighbors over and it turned into a lamp party, like tupperware. I took many orders and from that the story gets developed. I installed a set of hanging lamps, and they asked if I could make a little table, so I said “Of course”. So that’s the short version how I got into WW’ing. There’s really more to the story, but I think I’ll leave it to a full post so everybody can get a laugh.
My response is never give up. If that shelf hasn’t sold, it just hasn’t been seen by the right person who will deserve it. That’s great item, and looks well made.

Cabinetman has a good idea, you could go into the Woodenware Party _(Obiware)_business, but then you might get to rich, like Mr. Tupper.
Also you haven’t made contact with the right customer yet.

“trust the Universe” ... or as from The Fields of Dreams, “build it and they will come”.

Well if you make one thing … for example, pens. The you get labeled as a pen-maker or a pen-turner. I’ve made so many things that Wood-worker is the only thing broad enough to cover everything that I’ve done. I’m currently working on the third Magazine Table in which I plan to enter the Woodworking Awards for Creativity… Stay Tuned

Hey Obi.. I think that “LumberJock” is broad enough too – and now it even covers cooking ;)
