Teddy Bear Crib

I built this crib for my first child, Clare who was born on October 14. I used a heirloom crib pattern and kit that I ordered off line for the base of my design and then added my own touch, by teddy bear joining the slats into the rails. I used a fast joint joinery system for the first time on this project, to make the teddy bear joints. It was a bit challenging getting the teddy bear head centered in the slat and the slat spacing figured out on the rails, but it was all worth it in the end. I built the crib out of walnut for the legs, rails, and top cap and quartersawn sycamore for the slats and bottom cap. I finished it with a natural color stain and four coats of polyurethane. It turned out better than I could of imagined.

Beautiful! This is one of those items that will be handed down from generation to generation, you did a great job on this. Some day you will look into that crib to see your grandchild. Congratulations!!

-- I just don't understand. I have cut it 3 times and it is still to short.

Great choice of wood for this nicely done crib! I like the personalized touch of the joinery too.

Welcome to LumberJocks and congratulations on the baby!
