So these are the first three bowls i made after I got my lathe, back in 2008. I’ve made a bunch of stuff since then(not just turnings) but I got to go threw a lot of pics to find them.

those really look nice. I have never tried turning and don’t know much about it – are the missing areas on that one bowl intentional or are those really good recoveries from the wood coming apart?

Well there not the first things I’ve turned. I had done some spindle turning before, but these were the first bowls.
One of the missing areas was “punky”(I think that’s the term). It was soft and rotted so i carved it away, the other two i did on purpose to kind of balance it out. Not sure how successful that was. I had just seen a carving /turning demo and thought what the hell I’ll just cut carve out some holes and call it art. I like it.
They are all maple the square one is a burl and the holey one is spalted. They were from turning blanks you can get at Windsor Plywood.
