This is a long overdue project. I made it to honor my father, a US Marine veteran of WW II and a two time recipient of the Purple Heart. (My brother has one of them.) I used red oak, and I thought it appropriate to use purple heart for the wood plugs and the splines. I also used round leather plugs. It can stand on its own or be mounted on the wall.

It’s beautiful, Mike! It is a great way to honor your dad.

Great job, Mike! Hats off to all of our veterans – past and present – and all those currently serving. Thanks for sharing.

Thankyou for your comments on my flag box, but I think I like your layout better than mine. You did an outstanding job. Very nice piece and thanks for posting.
