Maple Murphy bed with Cherry Accents

This is a murphy bed that was completed in December 2010. It was Euro style that was built in maple with some Cherry Accents. The finish was just a few coats of Pre-Catalyzed clear lacquer. I added 24” bookcases to this one and started doing something a little different. The bookcase and the bed verticals share a face frame. In the past I would just butt the two cabinets together and that worked fine if they were backset from each other, but when they are flush the seam drove me crazy. I overhang the face frame (similar to a scribe line) on the inside of the bookcase and it overlaps the murphy be vertical, which was cut back ¾”.

The cherry accents are on every edge, including two trim pieces down the front. I made a matching desk, but will talk more about that in another post.
