Hi
First attempt at carving. Used only files and sandpaper to shape the fish after cutting out the blank. Top one is cherry and the bottom one is mahogany.

I think they look pretty good. Adding an eye might give them more personality. I’d like to try carving sometime.

They are awesome. Bill I know you thought an eye may look good but I like the mystery! It is almost as tho they are in some deep merky water just before you land them in the boat; ya’know when you say; “Holy Crap.. look at the size of that SOB!!! Good Job Dave!... I grew up on Lake of the Woods in Warroad and I have landed my share of Northern Pike. I would rather land a nice 23” Walleye however!

If you were carving fish – I would say you did a good job on your first try. Now, if you were carving, say, horses – well, my friend – you have some work to do.

Way cool, I like the simplicity and they are realistic looking as all get out…
Thanks

Those are nice. I’m looking forward to your 137th carving. I wish I could catch fish that size.

Nice Pike! I don’t have the courage to post my first attempt at carving. I showed my wife and she said nice horse! Unfortunately it was supposed to be a Labrador. Cheers/Steve. Hendrum, Mn

Wudbutcher – thanks for the comments – I got a good chuckle out of your comment – many times my wife has said the same thing. Take care!

Well, Jack, I’m going to tell you something. These are very good and it looks like you may have found your calling so keep ‘em coming.
