This is the project that got me going. I live in Brooklyn and have a very small patio for outdoor space. This spring I was helping a friend with a bigger yard assemble a playhouse from a kit for his kids. And I got to thinking that maybe I could somehow make one for my kids too. Even though I had no experience of any kind I went for it. After a little brain-twisting I realized that I could build it right on top of our planter in a corner that doesn’t get a lot of sunlight anyway. I designed it, put it together and then I was hooked. I started buying books on building cabins and read them for fun. But it soon dawned on me that I live in the city with two small kids, and there is no way I will be building anything like that anytime soon. It took a little while until I realized that woodworking and furniture making is the way to go..I cleaned out the basement, got some tools and am now just getting started.

Inspiration at its best, followed by creativity!
I used to live in Queens. A small patio is like a farm!

Nice going, Jon. IMHO, there is no better hobby than woodworking. You can build a whole lots of useful things and have a whole lot of fun while you’re doing it. You’re always learning something new and you’re skills are always improving. There are so many reasons why woodworking is a great hobby. Welcome aboard; I know that you will like Lumberjocks.
