Two wooden toy “pop” guns that I made in 2007 for my little brothers and I used a dowel, pvc pipe, a string, and a cork for the barrel. The handle is woodburned and painted.

My two grandsons have been asking me to build wooden guns for them They got the idea when I took them to a Hunter Education outing last year. We made non-working guns for use in the classes from black PVC pipe and 2X6’s for the stocks.
Could you go into a bit more detail as to how you connected the cork and string to the dowel, etc. If it is OK, I saved your post as a Favorite for future reference. Thanks for sharing.

Knothead62,
I added two more close-up pictures of how the cork is attached. The 1/2” dowel is simpily glued into a hole in the gun handle. At the end of the dowel, I scewed in a little metal hook with a washer and tied the string to that. Then I drilled a small hole into the cork and put the string through it and tied the string to a small metal pin nail, so it would not come back through the cork. The red and blue things that you see on the pvc pipe barrels are plastic soda bottle caps (for lack of better materials) with 1/2” holes drilled in the center of them so the dowel would stay centered. I made these guns when I was 12-years-old, so I didn’t have the best design for them, but they could be improved. I would also suggest using strong corks because the ones I used were very soft and broke easy. Any more questions, just ask. Thanks, Kyle
