Project Information

I discovered someone making flooring from Texas mesquite and have purchased wood from him for several years. He sells the wood he can't use by the pound and I haul it home in the back of my truck. The third piece over, the tallest piece, was a root ball from a small mesquite tree. He gave it to me as I was leaving, and to tell you the truth I had no idea what I would do with it. I wish I had taken a picture of it before starting. It really didn't look like it would turn into anything worth keeping. Instead, it has become my favorite piece of work and I put a price of $995 on it! I've had some good offers, but I really don't care if I sell it or not! It stands over a foot tall and weighs 15 pounds. Never fails to bring people into my booth at the shows I attend.

I love mesquite because it is easy to finish. Some of my mesquite pieces have no finish on them. I simply sand and buff them. The natural oils in the wood produce a really stunning finish. The second piece in is a small bowl with no finish.

That is some good looking wood!

What did you apply to the pieces with finish on them?

Nice! I also like Mesquite, but have not yet used it in a project …
I would love to get some mesquite boards to make a coffee table top-but as I live in Michigan, this is easier said than done …

Finally, you're onboard. Took you long enough. I have seen this piece (the vase) in person and it is GEORGOUS. Ed is being very modest because it isn't JUST the mesquite vase that brings people into his booth. We did a show together last fall and he has a booth full of georgous art. His display style ain't bad either. I have known Ed for about four years and everytime I go to his shop I'm like a kid in a candy store. When he adds some pics of his shop you'll see how nice his digs are. See you real soon when we get the bamboo.
