Named “Drive Thru” because it looks like a bulldozer drove through through its walls, this bowl is fresh from an art exhibit and has won an award at a local woodturning competition.
I like wood. I like its grain. I like its bark. I like its swirls, bends and dips. I like to try to bring these out in a piece of turned wood; letting the emerging grain and patterns dictate the shape of a work. I also like contrast and I will spend much time and energy just examining a hunk of wood to see if I can predict its ultimate look to bring out these qualities. I try to keep it simple; no fancy carving. Just exposing the beauty in a chunk of wood.
