I made this for my granddaughter’s 6th birthday. I don’t think I’ll be able to wait until July to give it to her.
This is assembled with mortise and loose tenon joinery. The orange piece, (stigma – I had to google it) is the tenon. I bored out the lily with a 3/4” bit. The tenon is 3/8”. I drilled a 7/16” hole in a 3/4” dowel and used the lathe to clamp it.
It is thicker than it would be for a display piece. This will get a serious workout, I wanted it to be sturdy. It has no sharp edges or points.
Walnut shaft with a hand tooled twist. Basswood lily. Oak dowel rod tenon. Watco Danish oil finish. 14” long x 1 & 1/4” .
