I was pleasantly surprised at the iridescent flamed grain in this wood. This was my first attempt at a custom finial.
I was so excited about the custom finial that I parted it off before finishing it :( So I just put on a few coats of mineral oil and BLO.

The flame birch really shows up on your nicely done pen. I used to be able to get a lot of flamed birch, but haven’t seen much for sale lately. I agree with you that it has a wonderful iridescent look to it.
