The first photo is a classic magazine rack built of Alaskan birch, the second is a necklace rack for a customer. Each shelf has storage for rings and earrings. The third is a shoe rack for next to the woodstove, it is made of white oak with pegs on both ends for gloves.

Nice pieces Russ. I especially liked the newspaper rack. I’ve never seen Birch with so much light/dark heavy wood grains before. Are you sure it is Birch? (sorry, I’m wood challenged).

Thanks for the comments! The birch I have is over 10 years old, cut with a chainsaw mill and air dried. Here is another example of birch:
The one on the left has a lot of spalting and I love making stuff with it. Russ

Thanks Russ. Ok, if the dark is all due to spalting then I’m on the same page as you. In fact, I have left many birch short logs sit upright in the dirt to spalt, and in out wet climate here that doesn’t take very long-. Thanks for the reply.

Nice stuff, the wood is really pretty. I don’t guess I’ve ever seen Alaskan birch. It all has style, but I especially like the look of the necklace rack. Thanks for the post.
