Blanket chest for my wife for a Christmas present. This was taken from the plans in wood magazine. The chest is made from cherry with curly maple panels. The chest is finished with oil and wax. The bottom of the chest has a cedar panel that can be removed and sanded to get the cedar smell back. My wife was very pleased with it and will fill it with many new clothes I am sure.

Nice work. The oil really brings out the grain in the cherry.

Nicely done. I’m sure with a little more time, that cherry will be even prettier.

You said that the cedar lining can be pulled out to resand and renew the cedar aroma… Did you drill a finger hole, or do you just pry it up from one side?

A blanket chest is another one of those things on my “to-do list” although I don’t know where we’d put it at the current time? Whenever I get around to building one, I hope it turns out as beautifully as this one.

What was the finished weight on this? I am currently building one out of cherry and need to ship it so was curious. I was wondering so I can find out how much the shipping will be. Great job as well.

I drilled a finger hole in the cedar so I can pull it up. I just checked on a scale in my bedroom and I would say about 65 lbs. The scale was on carpet so it was not giving the most accurate reading.

What a lovely piece that will get better with time. Over the years the cherry will take on that rich warm dark red hue, in contrast to the maple it will be even more beautiful. Nice project.
