This is a design I have played with a couple of times.this piece is turned from Kauri, its is about 7’ x 5 1/2” high.
it has has several sealer coats & a mop polish.
This is one design I have a lot of unfinished business with, there are dozens of variations sitting in my pad so far,
any comments would be appreciated,
Cheers Peteg

Beautiful on so many levels Pete. Symmetry, balance… gorgeous. The finial gives it an energy as well IMHO. Terrific as always.

What a unique vessel, it has a beautiful shape and design. I like it very much. I bet you had to be careful not to loose a finger or hand when turning, am I right?

Thanks for sharing

Wow Pete, that’s beautiful. Did you form the “edges” off the lathe by hand? Your recent “winged dish” post inspired me to try my first square bowl. I love looking at your work…gives me something to aspire to.

Pete….... Nice turn. Well done.

I feel your pain with this Clewes style box. I have a few off them on my self of shame. But like you also, I stuck with it until I got one that I was happy with…....however, now seeing yours I think I might have to give this one another turn.

Your project: The acorn shape of the box itself is great. The little nub on the bottom is a nice touch. The finial on the lid is a nice form, good colour and suits the style well. The overall shape; fit; finish is very good. I’m impressed with this one for sure…........ and I bet you had a lot of fun twirling it too.

Thanks for all the kind comments.
Brian, this was the forth attempt, the first was a real prototype, the new two I was left holding a gouge & wondering where the pieces that flew past my ear had landed, as you know when you are finishing these you have the lathe realy singing & you’re shadow turning so things can happen very quickly

Great job! They sound like an airplane when they turn don’t they! The height of your arch is pretty impressive, can’t wait to see more.

This design is exquisite! I love it and will have to try making one in the future. I have so many projects going on and unfinished so I don’t know when I’ll get to it!
