Finally completed my first set of cutting boards. Just in time for Christmas too. They are TWW style. All comments welcome.

I made 4 of them, kept one for myself and gave the others as gifts. I had to show everyone the picture of the purple sawdust before they would believe that was the natural color of the wood. None of my friends are into woodworking or have ever heard of purple heart.

The size for 3 of them is about 12”x18” and 1 1/4” thick. Then I tried one at 1 1/2” which made the smaller one about 12” x 15”.

Cool, thanks Steve, I was not counting my friends here on LJ when I made that statement but I could always user another friend.

Nice looking boards and welcome to the club. We should have a secret handshake for all that belong to the club. LOL

VIVA LVDT…...Welcome to the club. Thank you for the glue-up pic. Took me a moment to see the pattern but I did find it so now I’m headed to the shop to replicate. My inventory needs more end grain boards. What sealing process did you use? The one thing about LVDTs, you can NEVER make too many of them as there is always someone who would love to have one as a gift. I also will be your woodworking friend. Great boards.

Nice work Rex. Welcome to the club. You figure out what LVDT means yet? Because that is an integral part of the secret cutting board club. Tons of great cutting board folks on here. I’m hoping you are hooked on these things. They really are a blast to make and every good kitchen needs one, or two, or three.

Jim, I used mineral oil to seal the boards. If you want more detailed explination go to thewoodwhisperer.com There is a video call “a cut above” I think. Has all the details you need.

McLeanVA, LVDT? I had to look it up. Thats pretty funny. Is there an official badge that come with it. Someone good in photoshop needs to create one.

McLeanVA you make some really nice boards yourself. I have read your tutorial, it’s very good. Thanks for that. I am going to try one of your boards soon. I am doing 2 others right now from the leftovers of this project. Going to add some cherry to make up for what I am missing. I will see how they turn out. They might end up being firewood. LOL
