I always am drawn to a challenge and this buffet with it’s mortise and tenon joints, floating panels, wooden drawer slides and dovetail drawers gave me all I could handle. I have around 150 hours invested in the cabinet and delivered it to my son and daughter in law over the Christmas holiday. I followed the general design shown in “Wood” magazine (May 2004) and used the joinery from FWW issue #189. The top is granite. Now a new year is coming I can try new challenges, maybe a wooden clock!

Fifty years from now a family member will be telling the story on how well it was built and who built it. As you noted, easier say than done. Nice project Great workmenship.

That is an outstanding piece in my opinion. I love classic clean lines. I may have to put this on my short list. That is much nicer than the one shown in Wood 2004!

I really like this piece – you have done a wonderful job here! Ever consider blogging the construction process? I’d love that! I’m guessing you have more pictures from along the way…would love to see them and hear how you went about this piece. No pressure though…

Very nice and with classic strong joints that will last for ever. The cherry looks great with the granite and as the cherry ages it will only get better. Your kids will definitely cherish this piece. Excellent work.

This is gorgeous. I’d liek to build something like this, but I’m afraid I’m not at this skill level yet. In the future maybe…

This is almost the exact buffet I need to build for my wife.
I would build drawers where you have shelves and that would be the only change.
My only problem is that I need plans as I am somewhat of a beginner woodworker.
I will try to locate the Wood Magazine issue of May ‘04.
Very good job.
