My mom asked for a reading lamp for Christmas so I decided to make her a special lamp instead of buying one. The combination of wood and stainless steel combines two things I do in life. I am a welder by trade and a woodworker by choice. The light base is made of Walnut and the pull chain knob is also walnut. The light frame is a piece of stainless steel sheetmetal, a 3/4” piece of seamless pipe and the mechanism is mounted in a piece of 2” pipe. The shade is just something I bought from Target. Let me tell you that when she opened it you would have thought there was a million dollar check in the box. She was even more amazed and teary eyed when I told her the wood came from inside the old farm house that she was born and raised in.
