A mask I started about ten years ago. I worked on it for a day then screwed it to a wall where it could be seen only to beg “finish me”. Managing to ignore it for ten years I finished it over the holidays.
The inspiration came from a visit to Vancouver, BC, Canada where I toured a few native west coast art galleries. Looking at the price tags on the west coast native carvings I was both taken aback by the skill and the price tags. Worth every dime but being 20 thousand short of a zero balance I opted to try my own.
The mask itself is made from western red cedar. It has applied copper, feathers from a snowy owl, wild turkey and red tailed hawk and the teeth are made from stone (serpentine). A little paint, stain and a few copper nails…..............done. I mounted it onto a farme made from re-sawn hand hewn barn beams, re-claimed spruce siding.
Had to make a custom crate lined in stryfoam as to ship it about 1,000 miles North.
Cheers

Any project takes exactly as many days to finish as it takes, not a day more or less.
Fantastic job on the mask. Is it hollowed on the reverse side?

Its hard to see the detail in this photo and I suppose it’s to late for another. Sounds like it was worth the wait to finish it and the value to the recipient is greater than money could buy. Very nice.

Roman, I like your attitude. No job should be rushed – it takes as long as it takes is a great philosophy. Unless you have a customer waiting for the project – what’s the big rush.
On another note – it’s just wrong for people to have to live in all that cold snow.

Very cool mask. I would be afraid of waking some kind of native American spirit. mike
