Quick little Fox cars...

Over the last couple of years I have made probably a dozen of these, normally out of walnut or maple. I recenlty purchased some purple heart and cherry, and made 8 of these little buggers with the scraps I had left over from another project (okay, so I bought a little extra). I got a little creative and made a racing stripe on some. The tires I cut out of ash with a hole saw on the drill press, I try to burn them pretty good to give them more of a tire look, then I put small cuts on them with the bandsaw to give them some traction…. The sanding is what takes so much time… a little of little nooks… I don’t normally finish them, but some times I will use a butcher block formula… I just know how kids like to put things in their mouths. Most the time I personalize them by burning the initials of the recipient along with the date on the underside.

They are a lot of fun to make, and if you make a bunch at a time they really go together fast. I think next year I am going to produce a bunch to donate…

forgot to mention… there is a 1 dollar coin (ok.. a Loonie) in the second picture to give some perspective…

thanks for looking.

Awesome…now who gets to race them… and who gets the really fast one on the left?

Very cool little fox cars. The detail with the burnt tires and slots in them is over the top. Any kid would love one of those.

Very cool idea Sam, I’m sure they’ll see many miles of play time on them tires! :)
