Project Information

I had a 24 hour deadline to make a box for a wine bottle for my daughter to give her aunt and uncle.
Thank goodness for latex varnish. ...and whitedog! -http://lumberjocks.com/projects/34394
and his ingenious hinge design!
It is walnut, some more of that unidentified sweet-smelling stuff with the nice lines in it, and crepe myrtle for the hinges. I love finding use for my scraps!
It is sloppy, but it was finished on time.

That is really neat. I assume you used a bandsaw?

This is way cool … the lid , the angled sides with mitered corners , beautiful wood . Done in 24 hrs. this would have taken me a week. Thanks for the link but your hinge is way better that my ugly box.

I don't have a bandsaw. I cut the curves with the jigsaw and sanding.
On the top piece, i routed out the inside, then i used my grinder with the chaintooth attachment to cut the curves. Then just kept sanding and marking until they came as close to matching as i thought they would without making it worse.

I was feeling like I would be jealous if Santa found you a bandsaw. :) Jigsaw and sanding is how I would have to do it too. I got a new to me jigsaw from Patron, but haven't gotten to use it yet. I really really like that box Christine. The hinge is way cool!

The knot on the side reminds me of a picture of a whale's eye! Very interesting box/build!
