These are the jigs I recently made as part of “kicking off” the finishing of my workshop. I wanted to start with some simpler things before moving on to tables and cabinets.
The jigs include a crosscut sled, panel cutting jig, miter sled, circle cutter for the router, and a tapering jig. I found the plans for all of these at various places on the web. I just searched until I found free plans or at minimum, good pictures that I could follow. All are built with a combination of 3/4” plywood, 3/4” poplar stock and/or 3/4” MDF. I always look to find more, so if you know of some good ones I don’t have yet, please mention them.

All worthy jigs. Thanks for sharing. How does your router mount to your circle cutter? Also, with the taper jig, have you used a design that like before? Usually we see taper jigs with a way of clamping the workpiece, rather than just a tail hook. Just some thoughts.

To Tom (mot):
I haven’t made the screw holes for mounting the router to the circle jig yet. The top piece (in the pic) is the mounting place.
For the taper jig, I have not personally used it, but it is based on the design of Norm’s jig on NYW, so I would imagine it will work just fine…I hope.
Thanks so much for the feedback.

Well made jigs Tom. I find that toggle clamps on the mitre jig are well worth while, hold the wood firm & provide a quick release.

Nice set of jigs. My crosscut sled is one of the most used things I have made.

I think you’ll find these jigs to be just as useful, if not more useful than most of your high dollar power tools. I know I use my crosscut sled more often than just about any tool in my shop. Great job!

These are great!
I think my New Year’s resolution needs to be for me take some time and build some these useful jigs.
Here I sit in my office/study at the end of the year – it’s Friday – it’s quiet – nobody calling – my secretary taking some time off at the end of the year. In my prayer time, I pondered how there’s nothing I just have to get done (got the “have tos” done yesterday), but so many important things I could work on. I know I will be happy in January if I work on them today.
I think Stephen Covey calls these things “Important, but Not Urgent.” These are things that make life fuller, richer and more peaceful. Not to diminish things like friendship, family, self-care, and service to others that generally fall into this category – but jigs in my shop are like that for me! I know my woodworking would be more pleasurable and fulfilling if I built some of these jigs (important), but there always seems to be something more urgent when I walk into my shop.
Good for you!
