This box is made from Big Leaf maple Burl that I bought 5-8 Years ago. I resawed the burl and was planning to make some clocks. That was not done and this wood was just laying around

The front and back is Goncalo Alves and the ends are Cherry.

It is finished with Brazillian Rosewood Nut Oil (Penofin). I wanted to try the Deft Lacquar but the temp of the shop wouldn’t allow it. This oil dried fine.

I want to thank Andy for the Tutorial and some tips on making these boxes. The wood on this box is all 3/8” thick except for the top. It’s a little thicker.

I’m a little concerned about the size of the top. I left all of the burl sections on the front but it overhangs 1 1/16” at the widest spot.

It’s impressive when you look at the top but when you look at the total box it overwhems it.

I think the natural edge makes this “one of a kind” and just adds more interest to the piece.

More gems Karson. The natural edges look beautiful to me. Nicely done.

Very nice Karson.

It looks perfect.

If the top were plain wood, it would overwhelm it.

With Burl there aint no rules.

I made mention at our last executive meeting that someone asked about a workshop on them.

Im in, not a problem.

I was thinking that the Shaker toothpick might help on the glue-ups so that we could get done in 1 day.
