The first of 2 Music Boxes I am making for my granddaughters. The base is walnut, the carcass is mesquite, and the top is a walnut frame with an elm panel, maple spines in the frame, with walnut spines in the carcass.
Thanks for looking and critique it as you will.

Great looking boxes Vern, What tunes did you pick out for the boxes?

cool box, all i have to saay is kids don’t care what something looks like just as long as u made it just for them that’s the best. I made a real nice box for my doughter and it took me almost a month to get the finnish just right. I finnished it she loved it then she put a big sticker on the top of it and tried to peel it off so it left some residue and parts of the sticker, to fix it she just put more on there. Now she has a beautiful box with stickers all over it covering the finnish.

Really nice work Vern. I’ve been thinking about making one of these for my daughter. The big question is does the music start when the top is opened? If so, where did you get the music movement with the parts to make that happen? Searching thru the web it’s really confusing what sites sell the movements that start when the top is opened. Also, that’s a really nice mirror. Where did you get that?

Ok, thanks for the kind remarks. I purchased the music movement from Music Box Attic. It doesn’t stop when you close the lid. I did get a stop pin and a piece of wire from them. Just couldn’t figure out how to make it work. So if anybody can figure it out, maybe they can do a blog and enlighten me. I just didn’t pursue it enough. I did see instructions somewhere. It is a large site and they have close to a hundred tunes. I ordered them with plastic boxes around the movement. I think I would need to remove them from the box to make it work. My daughter-in-law picked the tunes. 1 is Rainbow Connection. 2 is somewhere over the rainbow. Mirror was picked up at Hobby Lobby.
