I can’t believe how quickly my son has grown (3” this year alone!”) and so it was time for a bed. I was inspired by a design I found online. I changed the dimensions to what I feel is more pleasing on the eyes. It almost has a Ying and Yang thing going on which I like a lot. I wanted a design that would work for lucas as he grows so the idea being that this will be his only bed until he moves out or takes it to college. The wood is 1st. growth 100 year air dried Douglas Fir milled by a master in Northern B.C. it was recycled from an old bridge. When Fir is aged for that long it becomes like a hardwood and the sap crystallizes. My wife wanted the legs stained dark walnut so it matched our bed. I used Varathane walnut stain for the legs and two coats of Watkins danish oil. Lucas loves the bed and now we just have to keep him in the bed at night!

Nice bed, I am in the process of making one too for my three year old daughter… How did you attach the bed rails?
