very rough and slow this year

I got a late start, then the carpal tunnel knocked me OUT for almost a week. I only managed 3, sort of 4 gifts by Christmas…and they were rushed and full of mistakes with obvious cover-up jobs.
One was supposed to be a box for holding video games. Somehow i messed up until i shaved it too short to fit them, the other a wine box.
A special thanks to jerset for giving me a solution for hinging the odd shaped containers! -http://lumberjocks.com/projects/41220

-They are walnut (of course, always!) and that really hard, unidentified wood that i uncovered with the sweet smell. -Does the smell maybe come from the “spalting”?

Hey girl, I really like the sides rails on this box, and it was a good first attempt at the funky hinge. I admire your willingness to attempt new things. You keep getting better and better. As for the games not fitting- well, they can just put some in long ways instead. It will work. :) You HAVE BEEN BUSY you little elf. :)

join the club… I rushed a box and messed it up… trying to sort it out now. Carpal tunnel is in the wrists… I have surgery coming up in late January for tarsal tunnel in the ankles. It happens. Still, good box.

Welcome to the boxmakersmistakesclub Christine. I love the box. It’s refined and rustic at the same time and it has an interesting (good) shape too. Coincidentally I saw the very same type of hinges on a wooden small box here in Norway last month. I thought it was very nice and yours looks great too.

I also like the rustic old style look of these.

Nice box. I’ve yet to make a box but it’s on my to do list. I’ll probably make mine square and boring though cause I don’t quite have your creativity. Great job on this one.
