This cutting was done as a surprise Holiday Gift for my wife, who is enamored by the band “The Killers”.
I found a picture of the band that was a tad out of the ordinary, but had a lot of detail and some wonderful contrast – two perfect criteria for a cutting!
The hardest part of this particular work was having to do a detailed pattern for four separate people who are four separate distances away from the focal point. I basically had four times the work to do than a normal cutting.
The logo of the band was simply impossible to do with a drill press or anything else – trust me! I wound up using an heat transfer technique and I think it turned out well.
The frame was made custom for the portrait and consists of some very nicely grained walnut. The two woods contrast each other very nicely.
Overall dimensions are 13×16 inches. Image itself is 1/8 inch baltic birch plywood. Finish, as usual, is a soak in lemon oil and then backed with thick felt.
My wife LOVED her gift yesterday – that is what really matters! :-)
