nutcracker for my niece

I built this nutcracker for my niece who is on the Columbia Quad Squad roller derby team. To get the body diameter I wanted it took 4 3/4” boards glued up. The plan I used called for turning then cut the head off and bandsaw the slot in the center, I split one board on the bandsaw , cut the slot before turning I think it was easier and made it stronger. I turned tenons on the legs.
Nothing fancy, maple, and painting isn’t my thing but I hope she likes it.

Nice personalization. I’ve certainly never seen a nutcracker on skates before. I’m thinking about making one next year… What plans did you use?
